Alexandroupolis Photo Week 2026

Alexandroupolis Welcomes Its First Photography Week!
For nine days, Alexandroupolis will become a meeting place for photography, creativity, and culture as it hosts the inaugural Alexandroupolis Photo Week 2026.
After nearly two decades of contributing to the region’s cultural life, the Center for Creative Photography of Thraceis taking an important new step: organizing the first Photography Week in Alexandroupolis, from October 31 to November 8, 2026, under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Alexandroupolis.
Alexandroupolis Photo Week grew out of a love of photography and the belief that art knows no geographical boundaries. It is a collective initiative driven by volunteers who, through dedication, personal effort, and limited resources, are working to establish a lasting cultural event in Greece’s northeastern border region.
The festival aims to bring photography closer to the public, encourage creative expression, inspire dialogue, and establish Alexandroupolis as a place for artistic encounters and cultural exchange.
Nine Days Dedicated to the Art of Photography
Alexandroupolis Photo Week 2026 seeks to transform venues across the city into spaces for expression, inspiration, and creative exchange.
The program includes solo and group photography exhibitions, presentations of photographic work, talks, discussions, creative workshops, portfolio reviews, and educational activities, bringing together photographers, artists, cultural professionals, and photography enthusiasts.
Particular emphasis is placed on engaging young people and the educational community, with activities that introduce students to photography as a means of observation, storytelling, and personal expression.
The festival also takes on an international dimension through collaborations and photographic contributions from Turkey and South Korea, encouraging cultural exchange across borders and highlighting the power of images as a shared language that connects people and communities.
“Photography Today” — An Open Conversation About Images and the Contemporary World
The main opening event of Alexandroupolis Photo Week 2026 will take place on Saturday, October 31, featuring four prominent figures in Greek photography: Heracles Papaioannou, Dora Lavazou, Konstantinos Pittas, and Eirini Kontogeorgiou.
Under the theme “Photography Today,” the guests will explore the place and role of photography in contemporary life, the changes brought about by technology and artificial intelligence, the relationship between images, society, and the individual, and the challenges and possibilities facing photographic practice.
The event aims to offer a lively, thoughtful, and open conversation, inviting active audience participation and moving beyond the format of a conventional presentation.
The City Becomes Part of the Photographic Experience
Events and exhibitions will take place in distinctive venues across Alexandroupolis:
- Warehouses 1 and 2 at the Port of Alexandroupolis
- The former Bank of Greece building
By bringing these venues into the festival, the organizers aim to create a distinctive cultural route through the city, connecting photographic practice with the history, architecture, and identity of Alexandroupolis.
A Collective Effort with an Eye to the Future
Alexandroupolis Photo Week builds on the longstanding commitment of the Center for Creative Photography of Thrace to promoting the art of photography, supporting creativity, and expanding cultural opportunities for the local community.
Nearly twenty years after its founding, the Center is seeking to build on this work, laying the foundation for an enduring event that will evolve, bring artists together, and gain momentum year after year.
Alexandroupolis Photo Week aspires to be more than a series of photography exhibitions and events. It seeks to become an open space for encounters, the exchange of ideas, artistic exploration, and human connection.
It is a festival shaped by collaboration, volunteer effort, and the shared belief that culture can flourish anywhere, even far from major urban centers.
The Center for Creative Photography of Thrace invites the residents of Alexandroupolis, visitors to the region, the photography community, and everyone who loves art and culture to be part of this inaugural edition.
Because photography is more than the images we create. It is how we see, understand, and share the world around us.
Join us in Alexandroupolis from October 31 to November 8, 2026, where images bring us together.
