“Unexpected Encounter”: A Photographic Bridge between Korea and Greece in Alexandroupolis

The opening of the photography exhibition “Unexpected Encounter” took place with great success at the Historical Museum of Alexandroupolis, presenting a distinctive cultural initiative that brings photographers from South Korea and Greece into creative dialogue.
The Centre for Creative Photography of Thrace had the pleasure of welcoming guest photographers from South Korea to Alexandroupolis, members of the Art & Culture Korea Association, who presented their photographic work and took part in a meaningful encounter between cultures, images and artistic journeys.
The exhibition “Unexpected Encounter” captures precisely this transition: from image to presence, from artistic acquaintance to meaningful dialogue, from distance to connection. It is not simply a photography exhibition, but an open space for cultural exchange between Korea and Greece.
Through photography, different perspectives, cultures and personal paths meet in a shared place of expression. Art becomes a language of communication, able to transcend borders, distances and different starting points, creating new relationships and future opportunities for collaboration.
The participating photographers are Giannis Gogkos, Giannis Kaltseras, Giannis Boultadakis, Candy Kwon, Choi Youngkwi, Jung Okyoung, Kwak Poungyoung and Shin Eunju.
The Mayor of Alexandroupolis was represented by the Deputy Mayor of the Municipal Unit of Feres and the Primary Sector, Christos Gkougkoulakis, whose presence honoured the event and the international cultural collaboration developed through it.
“Unexpected Encounter” is not presented as the end of a journey, but as the beginning of a new friendship, an artistic dialogue and future exchanges between photographers from Korea and Greece.
The exhibition serves as a reminder that art has the power to shorten distances, open conversations and bring together people who, until yesterday, knew one another only through their images.
