“ARS CREATIO” Photography Exhibition by the Center for Creative Photography of Thrace

In Evros, there is a long-standing tradition that is not easily photographed. It is not the landscapes, nor the classic “must-see” sights. It is the workplaces, the machines that never stop, the people who produce and create.

And so, the Center for Creative Photography of Thrace has decided to turn the photographic gaze toward what we usually overlook: the productive fabric of the region.

The photography exhibition is called “ARS CREATIO” — that is, art and creation. But not with conventional materials — with metal, light, factories, and working hands. The combination of the two Latin words, Ars and Creatio, is not merely a title; it feels more like a small declaration. Art can be found where something new is born, where human skill meets sweat and know-how. In Evros, this union has a long history.

The exhibition sets up a dialogue between two worlds we often consider separate: industry and art. Photographs depict industrial landscapes in an almost poetic way, portraits of workers who could be heroes of a silent story, and snapshots from workshops and factories that suddenly resemble cinematic scenes. Production becomes image. Everyday life becomes narrative. And art does not romanticize anything — it simply observes.

Fourteen photographers traveled, entered spaces usually closed to the public, and captured a side of Evros rarely discussed: a place of creation, not just nature.

Participating photographers: Nikos Andreadakis, Christina Gousiou, Ilias Grigoriadis, Georgia Dimitriou, Nikos Zoakis, Thomas Kapetanidis, Dimosthenis Karageorgiou, Giorgos Kouvalakis, Drakoulis Koulaxidis, Christos Kouroudis, Lampros Nakos, Katerina Papapanagiotou, Sakis Solomonidis, Aneza Spanopoulou.

The exhibition will be held at the former Bank of Greece building in Alexandroupolis, on Vasileos Alexandrou coastal avenue — a space with a strong architectural identity that is reopening to the public through art.

The photography exhibition “ARS CREATIO” is organized with financial support and under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, with the endorsement of the Municipality of Alexandroupolis, and in collaboration with the Evros Association of Craftsmen and Industrialists, which supports the initiative by bringing to light a world that, though silent, forms the foundation of local life. Media sponsors include www.e-evros.gr, StatusRadio 94.2, and the newspaper “I Gnomi”. Supported by Maltezos Menelaos & Partners.

The Center for Creative Photography of Thrace invites the public to see the region differently: to recognize art where something everyday is born, to view production as part of our cultural identity, and to discover that creation can, in fact, be found everywhere — if you know where to look.
