The photography exhibition “Rodopi: One Mountain Range, Fifteen Photographers” at Alexandroupolis Airport

Alexandroupolis International Airport "Demokritos" welcomes the Center of Creative Photography of Thrace and the photography exhibition "Rodopi: One Mountain Range, Fifteen Photographers."

At the gateway in and out of Thrace — where the first and last glances of travelers meet the land itself — a new visual experience takes shape: images that welcome and bid farewell, creating a bridge between those who depart and those who arrive, between those who have known Thrace and those about to discover it.

From December 1st, 2025, until the end of February 2026, the Departures and Arrivals halls of the Alexandroupolis International Airport “Dimokritos” are transformed into an open gallery. A pathway of images meeting everyone who leaves and everyone who arrives, forming a visual connection with Thrace: its landscapes, its people, its stories.

Rhodope: a mountain range almost mythical. Castles, chapels and mosques, stone bridges and mansions; villages scented with smoke and freshly cut wood; forests transformed by the seasons. Landscapes that look back at you — quiet yet resolute. And still, as impressive as the natural world may be, its strongest element remains the human one: the smiles, the hospitality, the coexistence of cultures, religions, and traditions. A polyphony that does not shout — it simply lives.

To capture this place, merely crossing it is not enough. If you only pause briefly, the only thing you photograph is your own journey. But Rhodope demands time: to listen to its stories, to lose yourself on its paths, to step into its courtyards, to earn the trust of its people. It requires patience to watch the seasons pass, one by one.

This is how fifteen photographers of the Center of Creative Photography of Thrace joined forces — something rare in a country that often favors solitary routes — to create a collective vision of Rhodope. A body of work that moves beyond information. The images enter the forest, cling to branches, stumble over trunks, encounter colors piercing through the fog. They hear rustling, see shadows, phantoms, mysteries. Rhodope shifts from enchanting… to enchanted.

And when winter arrives and everything turns white, the series transforms. The snow-covered frames resemble small miracles — the kind that make you pause and breathe a little deeper.

Now, this experience travels to the airport of Alexandroupolis, reminding those who depart and introducing those who arrive that Thrace is not merely a destination; it is a story, a memory, a gaze that follows you.
